paradise.

is the word i use to describe our new house.

simply paradise.

when we moved down to Georgia, we found a house, sealed the deal and were happy that we could line everything up with such a huge move for our family. over the last six months, we have been looking to move out of our busy neighborhood to a more secluded property. we had about called it quits when this lovely little yellow house came on the market. good things come to those who wait and trust in patience, God's plan, and many prayers!

the requirement was lease to own so we put up a binder and moved on it, as several other people were bidding for it! it was very stressful but we are so happy here, that the waiting and anticipation was so worth it. the house sits on 5 acres at the end of a dead end road and is so peaceful and so much different than the hustle and bustle of our old neighborhood. it has real hardwood floors and tile throughout, 3 bedrooms, 1 1/2 bathrooms, a screened in back porch, large front porch, plantation window treatments, large kitchen and dining room, a huge shop with roll-up doors at the back of the property, and pool hookups!

the move was a lot of work, as we had settled in our old house for 15 months! our first night at the new house, we slept on our mattress on the living room floor, watched Cool Hand Luke, one of our favorite movies, and shared a Donatos pizza!

after seeing the layout, we decided to give Audrey the master bedroom and turn it into a nursery and her playroom! our room is up front, and although it isn't as big as the master, the his and her closet goes wall to wall with two different doors and it's closest to the living room, where we are late at night. she loves playing in her room, and i love that our living room isn't bombarded with toys and clutter all the time!

Two weeks before the big move, we celebrated Will's 26 birthday! This is the 6th birthday I've celebrated with him in his life and as always, we had a great time! The day wasn't complete without a fishing-themed ice cream cake from DQ

Audrey and Will wore their new matching Southern Marsh t-shirts :) he was so tickled to see her little tiny t-shirt with a good ol' southern wood duck on the back, just like his!

i am so excited that we finally have the space and layout to host Audrey's birthday party at our house this year! since our girl loves her "tactors" so much, we decided to do a Big Pink Tractor bash for her 2nd birthday! So excited!! This year, my friend Hannah is helping me plan and decorate, plus I have my oh-so-awesome-and-talented mamas from my mom's group sending love to us in the form of John Deere green and baby pink chunky beaded necklackes, feltie hair clips, banners, signs, decorations, and a custom pink tractor t-shirt for the big day. Also thinking about letting Audrey try another round of smash cake business since last year she was really not into it! invitations should be going out in about a month! we hope to see lots of family and friends, honorary guests are my dad and Sheila! :)

bye, bye, rock-a-bye

my grandma sang this song to my dad when he was little, my dad sang it to me when i was little, and also sang it to Audrey every night when he put her to bed at GG's house a couple weeks ago. she loves it and asks me to sing it to her before bed every night.
tonight she started singing it on her own when we were reading a book before bed! sooooo sweet! i just love her little voice! she sings the first line and then bits and pieces of the rest!
(here are the "real" lyrics, in case you're wondering haha!)
"bye, bye, rock-a-bye
daddy's gone-a hunting
to catch a little rabbit skin
to wrap our baby Audrey in"

PS i can't believe it's August and my last post was a month and a half ago! here's a quick update:
Will turned 26

we moved into a beautiful house on a private 5 acres the first week of July. it's insanely gorgeous and peaceful out here! think pecan trees, grape vines, and moss hanging from the trees. we love it so much!

we survived a brutal round of the stomach flu 48 hours before we left for Michigan

Audrey and i took our second flight together to make our annual summer trip to Grandma's house in Jackson, MI

i received a promotion and raise
Will finished his summer semester and earned a 4.0 in all of his stick welding certifications
Audrey started a new school

we had our most adventurous date night yet

Audrey has decided that she wants to go and live with her most favorite person in the world, her Aunt Ann

Audrey is obsessed (OBSESSED) with tractors and matchbox cars. forget dolls and tea parties, this chick wants to vroom vroom around the living room all day long!

t-minus 2 months and 2 weeks until little miss Audrey turns two (and i get to see my dad again!) she is growing up before our eyes!

nein.

this morning i was getting ready for work and Audrey was laying in bed babbling on and on as usual. she usually just says random words like mama, hi, hey, no, and boo. this morning was a little bit different though.. Audrey was laying there saying "nein, nein, nein, nein, nein" over and over and laughing hysterically. i knew that was German for something but wasn't sure what until i asked my dad about it tonight. "nein" is German for "no" and i am now 100% certain that my mom has been talking to Audrey and taught her how to say "no" in German!! how hilarious! my mom studied the language in high school and even went on a school trip to Germany! i just laughed to myself when it all made sense. thank you, mama, for that little reminder that you are still a part of our lives even though you are gone from this earth!

all night, all day, angels watching over me

baby girl.

turned 19 months in May. we're rapidly headed for the second birthday and i have banned everyone from talking to me about this until at least September. cannot handle it! wah. time, why must you go by so quickly?

headed to the car
one of my favorites ended up being the one i didn't even know he took!

favorite foods:
turkey burgers with ketchup, PB&J, bananas, green beans, peas, cottage cheese, fresh cantaloupe, greek yogurt any flavor, mandarin oranges, spaghetti, wheat thins. she can eat an entire meal from a plate or bowl with utensils and not make a huge mess! i love her independence but she refuses to let me help her at meal time and it's a little bit sad that our feeding days together are completely over!

favorite toys:
books, books, books! babies (loves her new Cabbage Patch Kid) and stuffed animals; which she calls her babies, bubbles, her scooter, magnetic fishing set

favorite activities:
anything outside! she asks to go outside all. the. time. i dread rainy days because she hates being inside with a passion and makes this dislike very well known. swimming in her pool, slides, the park, running around, bird watching, reading books to herself or having you read them to her, putting on shoes all by herself ("mama no hep" when i try to help her ha!), brushing her teeth - which makes her dentist grandfather very happy. she usually cries when i pry the toothbrush out of her hands! also her new favorite thing to do is hide! the first time she did this was a couple weeks ago when i was trying to get us out the door so i could drop her at daycare and go to work. i looked everywhere and was baffled as to what was going on! after wandering around the entire house saying, "where are you?" (which she usually answers back "where are you?") and hearing nothing, i poked my head in our bathroom and was greeted by muffled hysterical giggling from behind the shower curtain. new favorite game when we're in a hurry to leave? hide and seek. SO MUCH FUN!!!!

new words:
the word pool has evolved from "poop" (which was really confusing) to "poo-ah," raining, ready? GO!, can count to 4 (!!!) usually does this when she is counting her wheat thins as she is grabbing them out of the box of "crackas," Aunt Ann, beji (Benji the dog), train choo-choo, what tis, what tat, read please, mine (grrrr, Will taught her this by saying it when they were playing one day and now she uses it somewhat frequently), eat (she used to just smack her lips when she was hungry), horsey neigh neigh, bite (when she wants something off my plate), "sing me" a request she makes at night when we're getting ready for bed. i know i'm missing a bunch -- her vocabulary has taken off tremendously this past month!

our house is constantly filled with Audrey babble and every day more "real" words take the place of her own garbled language. today when Will stopped home for a brief second to change for class, she followed him into the bedroom and told him, "Dada babble babble Aunt Ann babble poo-ah babble babble raining babble side" translation: Dada, today Aunt Ann came over and we played in the pool until it started raining and we had to go inside." BAM! love it!

favorite song:  a tie between Praise Ye the Lord and God is Love (Praise Him)
in the car we listen to 100 Prayers God Loves to Hear (sung by children, it rocks! i love it! i find myself listening to it even when she's not with me) and Audrey absolutely LOVES these two songs. Every time the kids yell "Hallelujah!" in Praise Ye the Lord she starts laughing hysterically and will yell something close to "Ha-lu-ah." She also likes to jam out to God is Love (Praise Him) and starts kicking her feet, clapping, wiggling and bouncing, well as much as possible under her five-point car sear harnass! haha! whenever the song is over she yells "digan!!" (again) and i gladly play it over and over and over and over because i love seeing her moved by the spirit :)

fun fact: this is my 100th Boatright Life blog post!

mother's day.

happy mother's day to all of the wonderful mothers and strong, incredible women in my life! i had an amazing mother's day weekend and was so blessed to be able to spend it with my family as well as my best friend, Laura, her son (my godson!), Evan, and her boyfriend, Phillip. the kiddos played, the mamas stuck their toes in the water and let the sun shine down, the boys chatted and did boy stuff in the background, and all was right in the world.

we laughed, we grilled out, Audrey cried when we finally made her leave her beloved pirate pool after playing in it for four hours. it was a perfect day.

Will and Audrey gave me a stunning Origami Owl locket, that i will treasure forever..

a vintage rose for our wedding
a teal gem for the ocean
an A for our sweet girl
a sparrow for my mama, who loved birds

all i really wanted was some extra hugs and snuggles today and i got tons of them from my daughter, my husband, my best friend, and  my godson! Laura told me last night that she wants to be as amazing of a mom as i am. what a wonderful and heartfelt compliment to hear! often times, i wonder if i'm doing the right things, making the right decisions, setting Audrey up to be kind, generous, loving, humbled, all of the things that were instilled in me when i was little. it was nice for someone to stop me and tell me that i'm doing a good job.

i am so, so awestruck and thankful that she is the soul God chose for me when he made me a mother.

storytime.

someone was so thrilled to go to church yesterday morning!!

NOT!! :)

we had a great visit with Grandma and Grandpa Gertz yesterday! while we were catching up, i realized how many crazy and fun things have happened in our day to day lives that i haven't been able to share on here since i've been so busy! so i am going to dedicate the next few entries to re-telling some of those stories :)

Grandma had her camera out and got some great shots yesterday -- we went out to the Dixon Memorial State Land where our favorite park resides and walked down by the lake and explored the playground. Audrey had a blast climbing stairs, sliding, and being adventurous! we changed for dinner and all went out to eat at Ruby Tuesday. we were wanting to take them to somewhere local but as Will says, "We're in the Bible Belt; unless the store or restaurant has company headquarters north of South Carolina, then it's closed on Sunday." :)

southern sunday dinners: big bows & biscuits
After dinner, we came back to the house where Audrey got a new V-Tech book and two Beanie Babies. One of which was a bat, which leads me to my first story..

The Story of Earl:

Audrey and i were on our way home from dinner at Will's parent's house. once we were back in town, at the first stop light when i was taking a left, i noticed something....flapping...
I thought maybe i had hit a bird and had a sick feeling in my stomach....you know, the feeling when you know you hit an animal and the remains may or may not have coated your car. you're almost certain that when you get out of your car, it will come back to life and attack you (or maybe that's just me?). We pulled into the drive way and i got out of the car very slowly. I crept to the front of my car, keeping a good distance away from whatever "it" was and this is what i saw:

ewwwwww!!! definitely not a bird! he was definitely the biggest bat i've ever seen in real life! my friend Jenn later told me that she thought bats were "so cute" and i told her she was crazy. in my mind this is what was lodged in the hood of my car:

well when i rushed Audrey into the house, Earl (as he was named later that night) was still moving and trying to fly away. when Will got home to come and rescue me, he was not moving so much. we did try to save him, but... "Earl had to die" (Dixie Chicks, "Goodbye Earl," circa 1999). it's a dangerous world i live in down here!
